Cloning Cannabis Plants

Cloning cannabis plants is a lot easier than it sounds. It is an easy way to produce more of the same strain. In this article I will tell you on how I go about cloning cannabis plants.

First thing to remember is that you should only take cuttings from plants that are in the vegetative state. In order to produce the healthiest clones available.

It is important to have healthy mother plants available to take clones from. I only recommend taking cuttings from healthy plants since the problems will usually pass on to the next generation otherwise.

I like to usually stick to the upper sections of the plant when taking cuttings. These usually get the most light and are the healthiest.

I will usually cut the clone a few nodes down, and then will proceed to snip off the ends of the leaves. It will help stunt the leaf growth, and it will help direct the growth towards the roots. Next you dip the cut end into a cloning gel, and place it into a rooting medium.

Then place the clone that’s in the rooting medium into a plastic cloning propagation container with a clear dome. You will need to make sure to have a spray bottle of water handy and some light. I will put my cloning tray in the veg room under some fluorescent lighting.

You will need to spray the clones with water several times a day for a couple weeks till they root. It is important to remember that this is the only way the clones will be able to get water. So it important that you spray them them with plenty of water.Don’t let the leaves or plugs get too dry during their time in the propagation tray.

You will then know it’s time to transfer the clone to either soil or a hydroponic medium once the roots start popping out the bottoms of the plugs. Make sure you cover the roots completely with medium. Air and light will stop root growth. Some pots have air pruning capabilities that you can read about more into in next week’s article.

Taking cuttings is a good time to Super Crop your plants. When plants first grow they tend to only have one plant shoot. The more you take cuttings. Then it will cause more Super Cropping to take place. The more vegetative plant shoots will form due to the redirecting of the growth.

This is one of the best ways to increase your yields. This is how many experienced grower’s get bushy plants. Super Cropping tends to strengthen the plant shoots. It is important to have strong plants in order to avoid the plants breaking from the weight of the nugs.

Some growers like to just use trellising, but I like to make sure plants can support themselves for the most part. Then I will add minimal bamboo poles to help support during the last weeks of flower when the nugs put on weight.
