Curing Cannabis Allows Preservation – How to Cure Weed Properly
Properly cured cannabis makes it much easier to preserve meaning it will be more resistant to mold and even the potency will stay much longer. Keep in mind if cannabis is stored in air tight containers in a cool dark place it should be potent for two years. Although there are many variables that can factor into this but generally speaking.
How to Dry Cannabis – First Steps
First of all remove 12 to 18 inch branches from your plants. Remove all the excess leaves and then carefully hang the branches of string or wire. Alternatively you could always hang branches on drying racks. At this point you can manicure your bud or you can do it later, it is really at your discretion.
No matter what you do it is imperative to keep the harvested bud in a cool dark room between 65 and 70. Equally important humidity levels should be 50 and 55 percent. Also make sure to use some type of small fan to circulate air around the room. Additionally you may also want to get a dehumidifier or an AC depending on where you live.
You will know when your cannabis is ready for the final cure when small branches snap off the branch along with small flowers feeling crunchy. Keep in mind this process should take 1 to 2 weeks.
Final Cannabis Cure – How to Cure Marijuana
If you have not already this is the time to manicure your buds and separate them from the plant branches. Store your buds in good air tight containers. Consider using air tight jars and never use plastic bags as obviously they are not air tight. Avoid over packing your buds as they like to have some space and crushed buds aren’t very pretty.
Seal all the containers and store in a cool dark place. You will observer by day 2 that the buds are no longer dry as they tend to re-hydrate. In fact if your weed is still really dry that is a surefire sign you over dried your bud.
It is during this initial week you will want to open up your containers and let them be exposed to oxygen. Keep close tabs on the aroma of your herb as the scent will tell you about the overall health of the bud. Therefore if you smell an ammonia this is a sign that your herb was not dried properly and that bacteria are eating your crop which will lead to moldy bud. Nobody wants rotten bud especially this late in the game after all the time, money and energy invested. After this week has passed you will only need to open the containers once every couple days or so.
For the best top shelf quality buds let them cure 4 to 8 weeks. Although some may say you can in two to three weeks and while true, it does not produce the same potent results. After all you have waited this long may as well see it through at this point right?
Often times people tend to rush the curing process which often produces less than stellar herb. For this reason knowing how to cure marijuana properly saves time and provides the best medicine available.
In conclusion when it comes to growing good bud it comes down to the little things. The little extra steps that make all the difference in the world and especially true when it comes to the taste and potency of cannabis.
